Each.

Where do I start?

For £20 a head, myself and my wife could take my elderly parents to The Square and then leave them standing in the cold outside whilst Jo and I enjoyed a three course set lunch for £40. Or, taking pity, all four of us could tuck into Sunday roast and sides at Blackmoor.

And the frustrating thing is that I just know that, if you pointed it out to those crammed into Croydon World Buffet, they straight up wouldn’t care. They would still prefer the “nuke-and-puke” reconstituted carboshit. In a steel barn with other battery-diners. Then they’d go out and read the Daily Mail and vote for Donald Trump.

In a way it’s hard to be angry with the black-souled, Satan-worshiping corporate exploiters who take their cash. I sort of admire them. I couldn’t do it. Some pity would creep in. I’d feel the need to slip a bit of quality in. Maybe clean up a trodden-in chip or two off the floor. Accidentally care. I simply couldn’t suppress by basic human values to the extent required to sheep-dip people in this way. Even willing sheep-people who want to be dipped. I couldn’t.

I think we need to re-think the format next year Chris. This wasn’t even funny. Or educative or anything other than depressing. We’ve got to find somewhere that gives you hope…and then plummets into catastrophe and pretension anyway.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1588051831069283523.post-82371645630413642152016-02-27T19:09:00.962+00:002016-02-27T19:09:00.962+00:00Ha, I love how you've tagged the review "...Ha, I love how you've tagged the review "brownfood, evil, shit". There were at least some things you could eat - mainly due to a few areas where they'd cook things to order. I knew it had cheaped out when converted to Global Buffet, but... well, I didn't expect that.Chzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18329765202327079629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1588051831069283523.post-65114997892584709452016-02-19T11:46:27.465+00:002016-02-19T11:46:27.465+00:00Dear god, I voted because I grew up in Croydon, it...Dear god, I voted because I grew up in Croydon, it's not well known for good restaurants and I genuinely thought it would be "a laugh" for you to review it. This time round the reaction was even better, a relentless peal of disbelieving cackling. Considering some of the truly wonderful meals £20 can buy you in London (if you know where to look) the existence and popularity of places like this just astonishes me.Martinnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1588051831069283523.post-1987364433117826012016-02-18T03:52:54.919+00:002016-02-18T03:52:54.919+00:00As I've long claimed, for all the love some of...As I've long claimed, for all the love some of us have for our ever improving food culture, we're mostly preaching to the converted - and that's perhaps 10% of the population. That figure had no doubt increased over the last few years, but I doubt it will ever climb particularly high. As confirmed by myriad colourful BTL comments on various bits I've written for assorted outlets. There's a huge chunk of the population (the world's, in fact, not just out little island) who don't really give a flying one about what they eat, and we'll never change them. It's a shame but there it is and the upside is that it does, at least, keep the competition down for tables at Hopper's et al. I hope one day you get stuck on a delayed flight in Napoli (my home town) airport... that's almost worth the delay :) from pizza (proper one) to fresh ice cream to local patisserie Bellavia to fresh mozzarella shop. heavenPasta Biteshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14033201496923113765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1588051831069283523.post-22627732627106572582016-02-17T09:36:19.303+00:002016-02-17T09:36:19.303+00:00I voted for Wimpey.
